Midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang has sustained a severe injury and is certain to be absent from the next Vietnam national team gathering.
According to the latest updates, midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang (Ninh Binh) recently suffered a serious injury during the match between Hai Phong and Ninh Binh. Specifically, right at the start of the game, after a challenge, the 1996-born player collapsed in pain and had to be stretchered off the field.
Preliminary medical checks by Ninh Binh's medical team indicate that Chau Ngoc Quang has ligament damage, suspected to be a ligament tear. Currently, his knee remains quite swollen and further detailed examinations cannot yet be performed.
It is expected that this week, Chau Ngoc Quang will be taken to Ho Chi Minh City for a thorough injury assessment. However, it is highly likely that the former Hoang Anh Gia Lai player will be sidelined for about 6 to 9 months.
Thus, Chau Ngoc Quang will definitely be absent from the upcoming training camp with the Vietnam national team, in the two matches against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. This is a significant loss for the red-shirted team as he is one of coach Kim Sang Sik’s favored midfielders, frequently fielded by the Korean coach lately.
Chau Ngoc Quang is one of the outstanding players from the HAGL academy. He was first called up to the national team in 2022 under coach Park Hang Seo. At the 2024 AFF Cup, Chau Ngoc Quang was summoned by coach Kim Sang Sik and delivered an impressive performance.
It is anticipated that within the next few days, coach Kim Sang Sik will announce the Vietnam national team roster for the two matches against Nepal on October 9 and 14.
