Xabi Alonso issues a warning to Real Madrid's star players

Coach Xabi Alonso confirms that Real Madrid is dedicating full attention to their trip to Kairat Almaty for the second group stage match in the Champions League, considering it a pivotal step to keep their winning momentum.

Speaking at the press conference before the match, Alonso emphasized the team's determination: “We have switched to Champions League mode and are aiming to win this game”. The Spanish tactician believes that building on the positive result from the opening match is essential for Real Madrid to gain an early advantage in the group.

He acknowledged that Kairat Almaty is a tough opponent: “Kairat Almaty is a strong team, and it won’t be easy for us to accomplish this”. Although it is their debut in the Champions League, the Kazakh side is considered disciplined, resilient, and capable of leveraging their home advantage. Alonso stated that Real has thoroughly studied their opponents through matches against Celtic and Sporting, and he urged his players to control the game from the very beginning.

When asked about squad rotation, Alonso did not reveal specifics but said: “There will be 11 players on the field, and all of them wear the Real Madrid jersey”. He wants the entire team to maintain maximum focus regardless of which players are selected.

In response to doubts following the Madrid derby defeat, Alonso denied any lack of spirit in the team: “I don’t see any absence of spirit. Morale is a critical factor when building a football philosophy. We are still developing, and sometimes to move forward two steps, we have to take one step back”. He admitted that Real is not yet at their peak form but considers this part of the adaptation process.

Alonso also shared the challenges of the long trip to Kazakhstan but emphasized: “The journey is neither an obstacle nor an excuse. In football, the smartest are those who adapt best”. For him, mental preparation is more important than any external factor.

After 58 days working with the team, Alonso acknowledged some tough moments but highlighted progress: “We must get through this. We weren’t at our best, but that’s part of learning and adapting. It’s painful, but now we are ready for the Champions League”.

The match between Real Madrid and Kairat Almaty will take place at Ortalyq Stadium, promising to be challenging with thousands of passionate fans supporting the home team. With a “Champions League mode” mindset, Real Madrid is determined to return with 3 points to strengthen their campaign in the group stage.
