The Vietnam national team roster preparing for two matches against Nepal draws attention with 7 players from the U23 squad.
On the morning of September 30, coach Kim Sang Sik announced the list of 24 players called up to the Vietnam national team to prepare for the two matches against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
In this list, the Korean strategist surprised many by including 7 young players from the U23 generation: Trần Trung Kiên, Khuất Văn Khang, Nguyễn Hiểu Minh, Nguyễn Xuân Bắc, Nguyễn Thanh Nhàn, Nguyễn Phi Hoàng, and Nguyễn Nhật Minh. These players recently helped U23 Vietnam win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and secured a spot in the 2026 U23 Asian Cup finals.
Additionally, coach Kim Sang Sik continues to give opportunities to striker Phạm Gia Hưng from Ninh Bình Club. Previously, during the September FIFA Days, Gia Hưng was included for the first time in the Vietnam national team squad, participating in two friendly matches against the Steel Blue Nam Định Club and CAHN.
The inclusion of this group of young players promises to bring fresh energy and more tactical options to the team. With a blend of youth and experience, the Vietnam national team is expected to gain depth and balance, ensuring continuity while maintaining stability in playing style. This also aligns with the team’s long-term strategy to build a new generation squad targeting important future goals.
Nepal is not considered a particularly strong opponent for Vietnam, currently ranked 176th by FIFA, which is 62 places below the "Golden Star Warriors." Given the significant gap in skill levels, Vietnam is determined to aim for a full 6 points.
