Manchester United surprised by promoting two young talents, Chido Obi and Victor Musa, to train with the first team amid a £214 million attack that has yet to meet expectations.
Manchester United has decided to elevate two academy prospects, Chido Obi and Victor Musa, to train with the senior squad this week, according to journalist Nathan Salt.
Obi had a breakout season last year and continued to show progress with the U21s by scoring 3 goals in 5 appearances in the Premier League 2. His call-up to the first team was not unexpected, especially given his experience playing at higher levels.
In contrast, Musa’s inclusion on this list is more surprising. The young striker impressed last season by netting 16 goals in 19 matches for the U18s and was even dubbed by some media as "Manchester United’s answer to Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal." However, Musa has yet to replicate that form this season with the U21s.
Notably, Manchester United spent approximately £214 million in the summer transfer window to acquire a new attacking trio: Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. Yet, after six games this season, the Red Devils’ forwards have only scored 7 goals.
Coach Ruben Amorim giving chances to two young academy forwards may indicate an effort to find additional attacking options and improve the team’s scoring efficiency in the upcoming period.
Manchester United is enduring one of the worst starts in the club’s history. After 6 rounds in the 2025/26 Premier League, the Red Devils have only accumulated 7 points, currently sitting 14th in the standings. The gap to league leaders Liverpool has widened to 8 points, highlighting the alarming decline of Ruben Amorim’s squad in this season’s title race.
