Atletico Madrid's coach Diego Simeone confirmed that the triumph over Real Madrid is in the past, and the squad needs to concentrate on upcoming goals.
Diego Simeone hopes his team can carry the positive momentum from their resounding 5-2 win over Real Madrid into their upcoming Champions League home game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
This marks the first time in 75 years that Atletico has scored 5 goals against their city rivals, a milestone reached amid a turbulent season start, with fans questioning Simeone’s leadership after only one win in six opening matches across all competitions. “In previous matches, we faced difficulties; recently, we have performed better. But there is still a long way to go. In football, as in life, there are always ups and downs. We will approach the season as we do life,” Simeone said during the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Argentine coach will not be able to lead from the sidelines as he received a red card in the final minutes of the Champions League opening loss to Liverpool.
Simeone acknowledged the importance of the derby win but emphasized that the players must stay grounded and keep working hard.“Every match is different. We strive to keep progressing, and the whole team is achieving that,” he said. “Everything depends on humility, belief, hard work… and continuing on the path we know is right for the team. We knew we had to win that game, and fortunately, we did it in the best way. Now we must be strong for what lies ahead, because no one remembers what happened before once the next match begins."
The Argentine strategist, now in his 14th season with Atletico and without a trophy for four years, also reflected on his long tenure: “I feel very fortunate. Every day, I am grateful for the position I hold and the opportunity I have been given."
