Vietnamese overseas midfielder Vadim Nguyễn has received his initial call-up to the Vietnam U23 team.
SHB Đà Nẵng club has just released an official announcement: Russian-Vietnamese midfielder Vadim Nguyễn has been called up for the first time to join the Vietnam U23 team’s third training camp from October 4 to October 15, 2025.
Born in 2005 in Russia to a Vietnamese father and a Russian mother, Vadim Nguyễn stands 1.75 meters tall with excellent physical fitness. The 19-year-old player is versatile, able to play both as a central midfielder and a winger. Vadim developed through the youth academy of FK Rostov, a club with a strong tradition in the Russian Premier League.
Beforehand, Vadim Nguyễn trialed with Đà Nẵng during the pre-season, performing well in friendly matches and then signing an official contract. Although he just started playing in Vietnam this season for SHB Đà Nẵng, the Russian-Vietnamese midfielder quickly adapted to the Vietnamese football environment.
Another major advantage for Vadim Nguyễn is that he already holds Vietnamese citizenship, which allowed him to be called up to the Vietnam U23 team immediately after his impressive performances in the V-League. With solid physique and modern tactical awareness, Vadim can play in any midfield position.
In fact, Vadim caught the attention of coach Philippe Troussier during preparations for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals. The French coach included the young midfielder in the preliminary list of 50 Vietnam U23 players announced in March 2024. However, due to commitments with the U19 FK Rostov team competing in the Russian national league from March to September 2024, Vadim was unable to join the training camp.
Being called up to the Vietnam U23 team for the October training camp highlights Vadim Nguyễn’s great potential. If he performs well, the Russian-Vietnamese midfielder could compete for a spot at the upcoming SEA Games 33 and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals.
