Coach Mano Polking confirmed that Filip Nguyễn is still a goalkeeper of high caliber and trusts that he will soon rejoin the Vietnam national team.
During the training camp preparing for the two matches against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, goalkeeper Nguyễn Filip was not called up by coach Kim Sang Sik. Instead, Kim decided to recall Đặng Văn Lâm after nearly a year of absence and continued to give opportunities to young goalkeepers Trần Trung Kiên (HAGL) and Nguyễn Văn Việt (Thể Công Viettel).
This decision was not very surprising from the Korean strategist since Nguyễn Filip was also absent in the September training camp. Additionally, recently, Nguyễn Filip has lacked consistent form with the police-affiliated club, especially after making mistakes in the 2-2 draw against Beijing Guoan.
Nevertheless, according to coach Mano Polking, Nguyễn Filip remains a top-class goalkeeper in Vietnam. Speaking at the press conference before the match against Tai Po (Hong Kong, China), the German-Brazilian strategist said: “As I have stated before, Nguyễn Filip is a goalkeeper of high quality. In my eyes, he has always been the number one goalkeeper."
Polking also expressed confidence that his player will soon return to the Vietnam national team in upcoming training camps: "“It’s true that recently his performance was not always at its best, but in the last two matches, Filip kept clean sheets, which shows he is gradually coming back. With this sign, I believe Nguyễn Filip will soon return to the team.”, Coach Polking affirmed.
