Thailand's squad of 23 players for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers was revealed, highlighted by the inclusion of notable players competing in Europe and Japan.
The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) officially released the list of 23 players for the two qualifying matches against Chinese Taipei on October 9 and 14. This call-up is crucial as the "War Elephants" aim to secure all 6 points to maintain their advantage in the race for a spot in the final tournament.
Led by Japanese coach Masatada Ishii, the Thailand team presents a balanced mix of experienced veterans and promising young talents. This roster draws attention not only for the presence of familiar key players like Chanathip, Supachai, and Weerathep but also for the impact of overseas-based stars.
Among the 23 players, three who are currently playing in Europe and Japan are expected to make a difference. First is Nicholas Mickelson, a full-back playing for SV Elversberg in Germany. Mickelson stands out for his physique, speed, and all-around attacking and defensive abilities. Competing in a European football environment has boosted his confidence and experience against physically strong opponents.
In midfield, the return of Supachok Sarachat from Consadole Sapporo (Japan) is a notable highlight. The Thai midfielder is performing impressively in the J.League and is considered one of Thailand’s key attacking players. His international experience and ability to create breakthroughs with speed and technique make him an important weapon for Coach Ishii.
Meanwhile, the attack welcomes Poramet Arjvirai, a forward currently playing for Jubilo Iwata (Japan). Although new to playing abroad, Poramet has quickly adapted and demonstrated goal-scoring ability as well as versatile movement. He is expected to add strength and competition for the striker position, which previously relied heavily on Supachai Chaided.
The inclusion of overseas stars not only raises the team’s overall quality but also represents a new milestone for Thai football in the regional arena. Fans of the "War Elephants" have every reason to expect a determined squad ready to conquer the challenges of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
