Replacing Amorim, MU makes final decision on Southgate

The future of coach Ruben Amorim at MU is becoming a focal point as the club struggles with poor form at the start of the season, and Gareth Southgate has surfaced as a strong contender.

Insiders at Old Trafford have revealed to TEAMtalk that Amorim “appears exhausted” and he himself admits that things are not going as planned. Nevertheless, the former Sporting CP coach insists he will not resign voluntarily, but if the poor run continues, MU’s management will be forced to take action.

Man Utd has already identified several backup options, including Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) and Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace). However, the name Gareth Southgate, once considered a top candidate, is no longer held in the same regard.

According to TEAMtalk’s writer Dean Jones, although Southgate was once considered, MU currently does not see him as their first choice. Jones emphasized: “The message I’m getting is that MU insiders no longer strongly support Southgate. If they change the coach, they want someone who can immediately spark a positive impact, and Southgate isn’t that person.”

This indicates that MU is searching for a manager who can “ignite passion” instantly, rather than simply a stable coach who prefers safety.

On the other hand, legend Teddy Sheringham has called for the club to give Southgate a chance. According to him, the former England coach would help MU “rebuild the structure” and understands the pressures of a global football environment. Sheringham believes Southgate’s eight years leading the Three Lions make him qualified to take the hot seat at Old Trafford.

However, this argument seems to have yet to convince MU’s leadership, who want to see an explosion of success rather than mere stability.

In this context, Amorim will continue to be given a chance in the upcoming match against Sunderland this weekend. This is seen as a “make-or-break” opportunity for the Portuguese coach. Another poor result could spell the end of his tenure at Old Trafford.

The situation at MU grows more tense as reports emerge that a star player may consider leaving if he continues to be benched against Sunderland. At this moment, Man Utd faces a crossroads: either remain patient with Amorim hoping to turn things around, or make a decisive coaching change to avoid a season collapse right from the start.
