The 1-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on home ground brought a lot of disappointment to Barcelona, particularly for Frenkie de Jong, who openly expressed his feelings after the match ended.
Ferran Torres was the one who opened the scoring for Barca with a precise finish, giving the home team an early advantage. However, PSG responded quickly. Senny Mayulu equalized before Goncalo Ramos became the hero with a late goal, securing a valuable win for the Ligue 1 side.
Speaking after the match, Frenkie de Jong did not hide his disappointment: “Very disappointed. When you concede a goal in the last minute and lose, especially at home, it’s impossible not to feel let down.”
The Dutch midfielder also frankly admitted that PSG was more effective during the decisive moments of the game: “I think they performed better in the final phase and throughout the second half. We started stronger. The match was quite balanced but indeed in the second half they outplayed us.”
According to De Jong, although Barca played well, the difference lay in the ability to capitalize on chances: PSG was sharper, more decisive, and punished opponents’ mistakes. Despite the painful loss, the 1997-born midfielder viewed the match positively: “This was a good test to see where we stand. We are among Europe’s elite. They won today but the Champions League journey is still long. Even though it hurts, this match isn’t decisive.”
De Jong emphasized that the team’s spirit won’t be shaken by a single defeat: “When we step on the pitch, we always want to win, so naturally, we are not satisfied. There is a long road ahead. This was a quality match, we need to improve and we understand that. The whole team will achieve it.”
The loss to PSG was also Barcelona’s first defeat since the start of the 2025/26 season and served as a warning to Hansi Flick’s squad. Although Barca started impressively and controlled the first half, they lost focus and lacked precision in defense and transitions in the second half, allowing the French side to turn the game around.
