Paris Saint-Germain achieved a historic milestone in the early hours of Thursday (2/10), when coach Luis Enrique's squad defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the Champions League group phase.
The reigning champions continue to maintain an unbeaten record in this season's Champions League with a thrilling win on the road. With only seconds left in regular time, Achraf Hakimi exploited Barca’s high defensive line and delivered a perfectly timed cross for Goncalo Ramos to calmly finish past Wojciech Szczesny, sealing a full 3 points for the French side. Before the match, coach Luis Enrique remarked: “This is my home.”
The home team started energetically and quickly took the lead through Ferran Torres. It seemed Hansi Flick’s squad would double their advantage, but PSG responded strongly. Young talent Senny Mayulu equalized in the 38th minute, and Goncalo Ramos, who replaced Fabian Ruiz in the second half, secured the winning goal in the final moments.
Thanks to this victory, PSG became the first club in history to achieve three consecutive wins at Barcelona’s stadium in European competitions. Previously, they had beaten Barca by the same 4-1 scoreline here in February 2021 and April 2024. With last night’s 2-1 result, PSG extended their winning streak away at Barca to three consecutive matches, a record never before seen.
The match also held special significance for Luis Enrique, who returned to Camp Nou, a place where he had deep ties both as a player and coach. He shared before the game: “It’s wonderful to be back in Barcelona because this is my home. This is where I experienced almost the best moments of my career as both a player and a coach. In Barcelona, the sun still shines as usual and the feeling is always special.”
“Barcelona is my city, my home. I played here for 8 years, wore the captain’s armband, and then coached for several years. I have nothing negative to say about Barcelona. I will always be grateful to this place throughout my life.”
After the match, he added: “Every time I come back to Barcelona, I meet many people who show me love and that is the greatest gift I have received in my career: the affection of the fans.”
With the win over Barca, PSG continues to prove they are one of the top contenders for this year’s Champions League title.
