Coach Hansi Flick: 'Barca is not yet at PSG's level'

Barcelona entered the clash with PSG in the Champions League with high spirits and a decent start. However, PSG quickly showed their resilience by equalizing late in the first half and scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute, just seconds before the match ended. This loss put Barca in a difficult position, and Hansi Flick openly expressed his frustration on the sidelines.

After the match, Flick admitted his team noticeably declined after the first half hour: “We started the game very well, but after 30 or 35 minutes, PSG took better control of the match. We performed better in the first half than in the second, where our stability disappeared. We conceded too many goals because we got too tired.”

The German coach also did not hesitate to praise the opponent: “PSG is a fantastic team. They have young, agile players and they delivered an excellent performance. We did not play at our full capacity, but against such an opponent, that was necessary. They deserved the victory.”

Flick emphasized the difference in defense and team spirit: “In a 1-1 draw situation, you need to defend better. Today, we were not at PSG’s level. But I believe in the team; this defeat will help us improve in the future.”

When asked about individual performances, Flick did not blame anyone but stressed the overall fatigue of key players: “Pedri and De Jong have played many minutes, but what matters most is the collective.”

Meanwhile, PSG, despite not fielding their strongest lineup, demonstrated a cohesive unit with disciplined defense and sharp counterattacks. Their 2-1 victory at Montjuic once again confirmed their status as top contenders for the Champions League title as French champions.
