Following the painful reverse defeat against PSG in the Champions League, Barcelona fans unanimously condemned Dani Olmo, stating that he is no longer worthy of representing the team.
Barcelona started the match full of enthusiasm against PSG when they quickly took the lead thanks to Ferran Torres’ goal assisted by Marcus Rashford. However, the Catalan side failed to maintain the advantage, allowing the opponent to equalize just before halftime and eventually lose in the final minutes. This defeat ignited the frustration of the Cules, with Dani Olmo becoming the main target of harsh criticism.
Olmo — a £51 million signing from RB Leipzig, was expected to be the perfect addition to Hansi Flick’s attack. Previously, he had shined for Spain at Euro 2024, playing a key role in their championship win. Yet, his form at Barcelona has been very inconsistent. In 47 appearances, the 27-year-old midfielder has only scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists, figures that do not justify his £150,000 weekly salary.
In the match against PSG, Olmo was given the starting spot replacing the injured Fermin Lopez. However, instead of proving his ability, he appeared slow, uninspired, and failed to make an impact throughout the 90 minutes. Compared to his compatriot Eric García — who played solidly and calmly in defense — Olmo was judged to be Barcelona’s weakest link in this high-profile game.
Fans’ reactions on social media were extremely harsh. One user wrote: “Sell Olmo right now. Enough is enough.” Another expressed frustration: “Leave my great club, Dani Olmo.” Some fans were even more blunt: “A player who can only perform for one half each match, can no longer defend him.”
Although he has scored and assisted in La Liga this season, those contributions are not enough to ease the disappointment. As one of the club’s highest earners, Olmo was expected to be a key player in critical matches. Yet, his dull performance against PSG only increased the pressure on him.
Barcelona is entering a tense phase in both the Champions League and La Liga. If he does not quickly regain form, Dani Olmo may lose his place in Hansi Flick’s plans. Fans’ patience is running thin, and calls for his departure are growing louder.
