Setting an unprecedented record, Haaland remains frustrated as Man City misses out on victory

Erling Haaland continued to showcase his natural "killer instinct" in the Champions League by scoring twice to put Man City ahead of Monaco. However, Eric Dier's successful penalty in the 90th minute caused the English side to settle for a 2-2 draw.

The early morning match on October 2nd at Monaco's stadium witnessed another shining milestone in Haaland's career. With his brace against the Principality team, the Norwegian striker boosted his Champions League goal tally to 52 in 50 matches — an unprecedented achievement in the tournament's history.

At 25 years old, Haaland is the only player among the top 50 greatest Champions League scorers to have a scoring rate above one goal per game. He has scored 29 goals for Man City, 15 for Dortmund, and 8 during his time at Salzburg. This personal record even exceeds the total goals scored by nine European clubs in their first 50 Champions League games, including Dinamo Zagreb, Anderlecht, Lille, and Celtic.

Haaland has now climbed to ninth place on the all-time Champions League top scorers list, behind only legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo (140), Lionel Messi (129), and Robert Lewandowski (105).

Despite entering history with an extraordinary scoring rate, Haaland left the field clearly frustrated. The striker born in 2000 openly admitted after the match: "Of course, I'm unhappy because we didn't win. We did too many unnecessary things in the second half and didn't play well enough. We didn't deserve to win."

Haaland also identified the biggest issue that caused Man City to lose three points: lack of energy. He said: "In the first half, we dominated and attacked more. But in the second half, we let the opponent control the game more. That was not a good enough performance."

The Norwegian player also blamed himself for failing to complete a hat-trick to "finish off" Monaco: "My job is to score goals. I did so in the first half, but not in the second. So, I'm not satisfied."
