Forward Rasmus Hojlund has clarified the celebration that caused confusion with his main club Man Utd.

Rasmus Hojlund had an outstanding performance, scoring twice assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, helping Napoli defeat Sporting Lisbon and secure their first Champions League win this season.

However, what drew the most attention was Hojlund’s celebration afterward. The Danish star pointed at the Napoli badge and the Champions League emblem, leading many fans to think he was sending a message to his parent club Man Utd.

After the match, Hojlund addressed the celebration. He said: "I touched the Napoli logo because I’m happy to be playing here, and the Champions League badge because I truly enjoy scoring in this competition. Hojlund also mentioned how interesting it is that a former Man Utd player and a Man City star teamed up to bring a Champions League win to Napoli.

The 2003-born star posted on his personal Instagram: "‘Hojlund scores two Champions League goals assisted by Kevin De Bruyne’ is definitely not part of the 2025 script I imagined."

Meanwhile, De Bruyne subtly questioned the decision to let Højlund leave Man Utd, stating the Danish forward “has many qualities” and a natural “goal-scoring instinct.”

The former Man City player shared: "Rasmus possesses great quality and for a striker, having a goal-scoring instinct when moving forward is crucial. This is important for him and the team. It was a fantastic night for Rasmus and will inspire more goals in the future."

Returning to the match events, the opening goal came in the first half when De Bruyne delivered a piercing pass that allowed Hojlund to break through and beat Sporting’s goalkeeper Rui Silva. With this result, Napoli currently sits 19th in the standings with their first three points, five places behind Sporting Lisbon.
