Arteta provides an update on the health status of Arsenal's 'super center-back'

Coach Mikel Arteta reassured fans by stating that the 'super center-back' Gabriel Magalhaes only has a minor issue and should be able to return soon after Arsenal’s Champions League victory.

Arsenal continued their impressive start in the Champions League by defeating Olympiacos 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka helped the Gunners maintain their winning streak, though the joy was slightly tempered by concern when defender Gabriel Magalhaes had to leave the pitch in the second half.

The incident occurred following a collision with goalkeeper David Raya. Gabriel stayed on the ground and required medical attention before being substituted by Cristhian Mosquera. The early withdrawal of the Brazilian defender caused worry among Arsenal supporters about a serious injury, especially since he is considered an indispensable pillar alongside William Saliba.

However, Coach Mikel Arteta quickly comforted fans after the match. The Spanish tactician explained that the substitution was purely precautionary: “I believe Gabriel is fine. He was hurt after a collision, possibly from a kick in the first half. He could have continued playing, but I didn’t want to take any risks since Gabriel has played many games and has had a long-term injury before. We need to protect him.”

Since joining Arsenal, Gabriel has stood out not only for his solid defensive skills but also for his significant contributions during set pieces. From the 2023/24 season onwards, the Brazilian center-back has scored 14 goals for the North London club, an impressive tally for a defender. Therefore, any injury to him could seriously impact Arsenal’s ambitions to win the Premier League.
