Wife reveals the situation of coach Ruben Amorim as MU faces a crisis

Maria João, wife of coach Ruben Amorim, recently revealed that her husband has suffered many sleepless nights, almost unable to rest, since taking charge of Manchester United. This is because of severe criticism from some fans that has greatly impacted his spirit.

In an interview with Prime Video Sport, Maria stated: "Ruben has had many nights without sleep since arriving in England. It’s not easy at all. People need to understand that we feel disheartened by the insults he has had to endure."

She once asked her husband: "Is all this worth it?" – but Amorim answered: "It’s what I chose from the beginning."

The reality is Amorim is under immense pressure as MU’s results have fallen short of expectations. The team has had a very poor start to the Premier League season, securing only 7 points after 6 rounds, and was eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Grimsby – a lower-division team.

Amorim believes he understands the external criticism but has admitted that losing matches is more painful than the negative comments. He also acknowledged that MU players are "too scared" during games, which affects their overall performance.

Coach Ruben Amorim often suffers from insomnia due to stress and anxiety.

Tensions are rising and rumors about Amorim’s dismissal in October are no longer uncommon in the British media. Coach Gareth Southgate is being considered by MU’s leadership as a potential replacement for Amorim, as the Old Trafford club has yet to find the stability expected under the Portuguese strategist.

Southgate was the top candidate for the MU coaching role in March 2024, when Erik Ten Hag was at risk of being fired. However, at that time, he declined all offers to continue leading the England national team and later helped the "Three Lions" reach the EURO 2024 final.

After parting ways with the national team, Southgate temporarily stepped away from coaching and moved into motivational speaking, as well as hosting programs for the BBC. However, insiders say he remains open to returning to top-level football if the right offer arises.

MU is reportedly seriously considering the possibility of replacing coach Amorim if the team’s performance does not improve. However, terminating Amorim’s contract would require the club to pay compensation of around £15 million – a figure that forces them to carefully weigh their options, especially given the difficult upcoming fixtures: facing Sunderland this weekend and then traveling to Anfield to play Liverpool.
