Marc Guehi responds firmly regarding joining Liverpool

Marc Guehi was on the verge of moving to Liverpool on the last day of the transfer period, yet the £35 million transfer collapsed. The English defender confirmed he remains fully dedicated to Crystal Palace.

Guehi had agreed on personal terms with Liverpool and was set to sign a five-year contract after completing his medical. However, Palace withdrew from the deal as they couldn’t find a suitable replacement, causing the 25-year-old’s transfer plans to fail.

Nevertheless, Guehi kept up his impressive form, helping Palace defeat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield and secure a 2-1 victory in the Premier League, extending the club’s unbeaten streak to 18 matches across all competitions.

Ahead of the Europa Conference League match against Dynamo Kyiv, Guehi faced numerous questions about the Liverpool transfer. He responded briefly: “I honestly don’t have much to say. I’m just focused on playing for this club. Thanks to the fans for their support, I feel it very clearly.”

The center-back also emphasized the team’s goals: “I’m not thinking about that at all. My sole concern is the club; I don’t pay much attention to individual awards. As long as the team is moving in the right direction, I’m satisfied. Once you’ve experienced success, you never feel content and always crave more. Everyone at the club shares that ambition. We’ve proven our ability. If we stay focused, hopefully, there will be many more opportunities ahead.”

Liverpool submitted a £35 million offer plus 10% sell-on fee just 48 hours before the window closed. Although Palace initially demanded £40 million, both sides reached an agreement for Guehi to undergo a medical. However, Palace’s attempt to find a replacement failed when West Ham intervened in the loan deal for Julio Igor, forcing the club to change course. Young French center-back Jaydee Canvot was later signed on a four-year contract but hasn’t yet proven capable of filling Guehi’s role.

While his long-term future at Selhurst Park remains undecided, Guehi has shown professionalism and determination to help Palace achieve their goals this season, maintaining consistent performance amid Liverpool’s interest.
