Aston Villa and Betis Celebrate at the Europa League
On the night of October 2nd into the early hours of October 3rd (Vietnam time), the second round of the 2025/26 Europa League group stage unfolded with numerous unexpected and thrilling events.
Real Betis Show Their Strength
Real Betis dominated from the start and opened the scoring early at the 31st minute thanks to a precise shot by Lo Celso. In the second half, the Spanish side extended their lead to 2-0 following an own goal by Francisco Son.
Although both teams created additional chances, the score remained unchanged. In the end, Real Betis defeated Ludogorets 2-0, securing their first victory in this season's Europa League.
Feyenoord 0-2 Aston Villa
Emiliano Buendía and John McGinn scored in the second half at De Kuip, helping Aston Villa extend their winning streak to two matches in the group stage. Earlier, Feyenoord created more dangerous chances, with goalkeeper Marco Bizot (who replaced Emiliano Martínez at the last moment) making key saves against shots from Anis Hadj Moussa, Ayase Ueda, and Luciano Valente.
It was not until the 60th minute that Villa broke the deadlock with a beautiful curling shot from Buendía outside the box. Shortly after, captain McGinn doubled the lead with a neat finish following an impressive run by Donyell Malen.
Nottingham Forest 2-3 Midtjylland
Midtjylland claimed a dramatic victory to spoil Nottingham Forest’s home return to European competition, thanks to a series of explosive moments early on at City Ground. The visitors opened the scoring at the 18th minute with a close-range finish by Ousmane Diao.
Just four minutes later, Forest equalized with a swift counterattack finished accurately by Dan Ndoye. However, Midtjylland quickly regained the lead through a timely strike by Mads Bech during a corner kick. Valdemar Andreasen then increased the visitors’ advantage to 3-1 with a textbook counterattack, despite a late penalty by Chris Wood that narrowed the gap for Forest.
Roma 0-1 Lille
Hákon Arnar Haraldsson capitalized on an early mistake in the 6th minute to secure a win for Lille, handing Roma their first home defeat in the Europa League since October 2022.
The visitors nearly scored a second through Osame Sahraoui’s effort, while Aïssa Mandi made a crucial save from Neil El Aynaoui’s shot to maintain the lead until halftime. Roma seemed poised to equalize late in the game, but goalkeeper Berke Özer brilliantly saved two penalty attempts by Matìas Soulè in the 85th minute.
Celtic 0-2 Braga
Braga continued their impressive form by beating Celtic to claim a full 6 points from two Europa League matches. The team coached by Carlos Vicens took the lead in the 20th minute when Ricardo Horta unleashed a powerful long-range shot that beat Kasper Schmeichel.
After the break, Celtic pushed forward strongly with dangerous attempts from Kieran Tierney and Sebastian Tounekti, but goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček made outstanding saves. As the match neared its end, Braga sealed the 2-0 win with a close-range finish by Gabri Martínez in the 85th minute.

Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored his first brace for Fenerbahçe, with his second goal marking the club’s 400th in European competitions, helping them overcome Nice.
Go Ahead Eagles caused an upset by earning their first Europa League win, thanks to a second-half brace from Milan Smit, overturning Panathinaikos in Athens.
Porto demonstrated timely resilience again, following a 93rd-minute goal against Salzburg in the opening round, they scored late to defeat Crvena Zvezda. Rodrigo Mora sealed the victory with a sharp counterattack goal in the 89th minute.
