Manchester United can acquire Glasner for just a £2.5 million compensation fee, exciting Rangnick! Selling key players but setting an unbeaten record

If Rúben Amorim is dismissed at Manchester United, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is among the top candidates to replace him. The Red Devils are interested in this Austrian coach for many reasons, one being his excellent performance at Crystal Palace over the past two years, and it’s uncertain whether he will renew his contract at Selhurst Park, which expires at the end of this season.

British media confirmed that although Crystal Palace offered a new contract, Glasner refused to sign due to dissatisfaction with the club’s summer transfer dealings. This means the compensation to poach Glasner won’t be expensive, allowing Manchester United to hire him immediately.

One report suggests that if Glasner leaves Crystal Palace now, the compensation fee would only be £2.5 million! For Manchester United, this is a negligible amount — you could call it a “bargain,” as it’s less than two months’ wages of their top-earning player Casemiro!

Interestingly, last year Bayern Munich offered €18 million (£15.5 million) to acquire Glasner but were firmly rejected by Crystal Palace, who demanded a compensation of €100 million, clearly unwilling to let him go.

However, the situation has changed now. Although Glasner might still stay at Crystal Palace, the chances are diminishing. The BBC reported that Glasner was offered a new contract earlier this summer but did not sign it.

Insiders reveal that the 51-year-old Austrian wanted to wait until the transfer window closed before making a decision. His choice to renew depended on how committed the club was to strengthening the squad. Ultimately, he openly expressed dissatisfaction with Crystal Palace’s summer transfer activities, which failed to meet his expectations.

Crystal Palace sold forward Eze during the summer window and even considered selling center-back Marc Guehi, causing Glasner to lose confidence in the club’s leadership. Sources close to Crystal Palace expect his chances of staying beyond this season to be slim, as he feels the club does not match his higher ambitions.

Unlike Amorim, who spent over £200 million on players but delivered poor results, Glasner has not been affected by rumors about managing Manchester United. Leading a theoretically weaker Crystal Palace squad, he has maintained an unbeaten streak this season. After a comfortable 2-0 win in the Europa Conference League, the unbeaten run extended to 19 matches, with fans chanting his name. Glasner said he is not concerned about setting the club’s longest unbeaten record: “The unbeaten streak isn’t important; what matters is winning our first European match. My wife is very jealous of the love I’m getting!”

However, many believe Glasner cannot save Manchester United and doesn’t fit the Red Devils’ plans. “If Amorim were managing Crystal Palace now, he’d have a 50% chance of success. Palace players suit a three-defender system and can execute it well,” said England legend Paul Merson on Sky Sports. “If Glasner goes to Manchester United, I’d be worried. He also prefers three center-backs, but that tactic clearly doesn’t suit United’s current players.”

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster thinks Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is better suited to the current United squad. Iraola’s team is currently sixth in the Premier League, and his contract also expires at the end of this season.

“Bournemouth lost half their squad, including half the starters, yet their performance remains impressive, so Iraola is my only choice,” Foster said. “However, hiring such coaches won’t be cheap. Even if their contracts are ending soon, they will demand around £250,000 per week to join today’s Manchester United.”
