Gabriel Martinelli asserts that Viktor Gyokeres could score as many as 40 goals for Arsenal this season.
Gabriel Martinelli recently sent a strong message to Arsenal fans, stating that Viktor Gyokeres can definitely reach 40 goals this season, thanks to the support from playmaker Martin Odegaard.
In the recent Champions League match, Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium. Martinelli opened the scoring, while Odegaard was named Man of the Match for his creative performance and midfield control.
After the match, Martinelli said: “It’s great to play alongside Martin because he always finds passes that create chances. Viktor is the type of striker who moves intelligently, attacks the box, and exploits the space behind the defense.
I believe that when Viktor links up with Martin, the results will be outstanding. We will try to feed Viktor as many passes as possible so he can score 30 or even more than 40 goals this season. We trust Viktor, know his quality well, and regard him as one of the top strikers in the world.”
This partnership makes Martinelli confident that Gyokeres will soon regain his explosive goal-scoring form, despite the Swedish striker having gone five games without scoring.
While Gyokeres has yet to show consistent scoring form, Martinelli is proving his worth. The 24-year-old forward has been impressive in recent matches, scoring as a substitute against Athletic Club and Manchester City. However, his goal against Olympiacos sent a message that he wants to start matches rather than just being a “super sub.”
“I want to start every game. I will do my best to help the team whenever I get a chance. Of course, the coach decides, but whenever I’m on the pitch, I give my all,” Martinelli affirmed. He also expressed his joy at scoring in two consecutive Champions League matches: “It’s my dream. I always want to live these moments. I’m very happy with my goal and the team’s victory.”
Competition for attacking positions at Arsenal has intensified after the club added Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze during the summer transfer window.
However, Martinelli says this drives his development, comparing it to his experience with the Brazil national team: “In the national team, I have to compete with stars like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Raphinha. So, I have no reason to complain when Arsenal also has great players. I just feel happy to play alongside them.”
