The Opta supercomputer has offered analysis and predictions regarding the match between Man Utd and Sunderland for the 7th round of the Premier League.
Following a disappointing defeat to Brentford last weekend, Man Utd will have a chance to regain winning form when they host newly promoted Sunderland in the 7th round of the Premier League.
This expectation is well-founded as the supercomputer Opta predicts that the "Red Devils" are highly likely to secure all three points at Old Trafford. Specifically, after running 10,000 simulations, Opta estimates Man Utd's chances of victory at 59.7%. The predicted outcomes also indicate a draw probability of (21.1%) slightly higher than Sunderland's chance of causing an upset and winning (19.2%).
Additionally, England's most successful club also benefits from strong historical support due to their superior head-to-head record.
According to Opta, in the last 30 domestic meetings, Man Utd has lost only twice to Sunderland and won 22 times, with the most recent victory being a 3-0 win in April 2017, over eight years ago. Their unbeaten record at Old Trafford is even more impressive.
Across all competitions, Sunderland has won just 1 out of their last 31 away matches against Man Utd, a 1-0 victory in May 2014 thanks to Sebastian Larsson's goal. Since then, the "Black Cats" have visited Old Trafford only three times, receiving as many red cards as goals scored in those three defeats (one red card per match).
However, since returning to England's top flight, Sunderland has been in great form. The Northeast England club has achieved 3 wins, most notably their performance at City Ground against Nottingham Forest.
Furthermore, the team coached by Regis Le Bris is currently the only side alongside Crystal Palace to remain unbeaten in their last 4 Premier League matches, with Crystal Palace still undefeated in their last 18 Premier League games.
On the other hand, Man Utd's form is alarming. They have managed only 2 wins, suffered 3 losses, and currently sit in 14th place.
Manchester's representative side has shown little improvement compared to last season, with many concerns remaining, especially in defense. Meanwhile, expensive attacking stars have yet to demonstrate effectiveness in offense, indirectly increasing pressure on coach Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
The match between Man Utd and Sunderland will kick off at 9:00 PM tomorrow (October 4).
