WTT China Grand Slam: Two Women’s Singles Semifinalists Confirmed & Sun Yingsha Wins 4-3 Over Wang Yidi, Wang Manyu vs. Mima Ito

On October 3rd, Beijing time, the WTT China Grand Slam women’s singles quarterfinals wrapped up. After Shin Yu-bin overturned teammate Zhu Qianxi 4-2 in the Korean internal battle, Sun Yingsha defeated teammate Wang Yidi 4-3 in the Chinese internal duel. Thus, two semifinalists for this event are decided: Shin Yu-bin and Sun Yingsha!

Sun Yingsha faces Wang Yidi. As the world number one, Sun Yingsha has maintained consistent form this season, winning multiple titles and holding a clear lead in points. Her performance in this tournament has been rock solid, advancing to the quarterfinals without facing many tough challenges. Her opponent Wang Yidi is ranked fifth worldwide. Although Wang often struggles in international matches, she withstood the pressure here and swept the highly regarded Hashimoto Honoka 3-0 in the round of 16, avenging a previous loss. Wang Yidi is also very competitive in domestic matches, so this encounter will be a fierce test for Sun Yingsha. Whether she can prevail remains uncertain!

Once the match started, Sun Yingsha quickly found her rhythm and built an early lead. Wang Yidi fought back fiercely, tying at 12-12, but Sun held firm to take two consecutive points and win the first game 14-12. In the second game, Sun’s form collapsed and she lost badly 4-11, leveling the match at 1-1. Sun reignited her offense in the third game, tying 5-5 before surging to an 11-6 win, taking a 2-1 lead. The fourth game saw a tactical battle with scores exchanging back and forth. At 7-7, Wang Yidi unleashed a 4-0 run that stunned Sun, winning 11-7 to even the match at 2-2. In the fifth game, Sun reached game point first, but Wang showed resilience to tie and then outplayed Sun in a tight 14-12 finish, taking a 3-2 lead. Facing elimination in the sixth game, Sun launched an aggressive assault, dominating Wang 11-3 to tie the match 3-3. In the decisive seventh game, Sun built an advantage late and closed it out 11-8, winning 4-3 and advancing to the semifinals after a hard-fought battle!

Next in the women’s singles quarterfinals are two matches: Wang Manyu versus Mima Ito, and Chen Xingtong facing former Chinese national player Zhu Yuling. Looking forward to the semifinal lineup — let’s cheer them on!
