The identity of the new head coach of SLNA has caused surprise

It is not Coach Nguyễn Thành Công as speculated; instead, an experienced coach will take over the head coach position at SLNA.

As previously reported, Coach Phan Như Thuật resigned from his position as head coach of SLNA after the Nghệ An team suffered a comeback loss to CA TP HCM in the 5th round of the V-League. This marks the second time Mr. Phan Như Thuật has parted ways with SLNA. After the first five rounds, SLNA had only one win, one draw, and earned 4 points.

In the recently concluded 6th round, SLNA barely managed a 1-1 draw against HAGL and almost lost if the Núi team had not missed a penalty in the final minute. The temporary coach leading SLNA in this match was assistant Nguyễn Huy Hoàng, who has also previously served as head coach.

According to Bongdaplus, the official new head coach of SLNA will be Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn. After Quảng Nam dissolved and did not participate in the 2025/2026 V-League, Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn has not had a new team and has now reached an agreement to lead SLNA.

Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn was once a legendary figure at SLNA as a player alongside his brothers Văn Sỹ Hùng, Văn Sỹ Sơn, and their father Văn Sỹ Chi. This family has a strong football tradition in Nghệ An, and certainly, upon returning to coach his hometown team, Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn is expected to continue promoting SLNA’s strong spirit and identity.

After retiring, Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn spent a long time as an assistant at Hà Nội FC before coaching Quảng Nam. Although the Quảng Nam team had limited financial resources, under Coach Văn Sỹ Sơn’s leadership, they successfully avoided relegation in the last two seasons before the club was dissolved.
