In his first game leading Hanoi FC, coach Harry Kewell will encounter considerable challenges against Ninh Binh FC.
On the morning of October 4, Hanoi FC officially announced the appointment of Harry Kewell — the former Liverpool star and UEFA Champions League winner — as the team’s head coach. The Australian football legend is well known among Vietnamese football fans. Internationally, he earned 56 caps for Australia’s national team, scoring 17 goals and participating in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. At club level, Harry Kewell made his name in the English Premier League with Leeds United and Liverpool, winning the 2004/2005 UEFA Champions League and the 2005/2006 FA Cup.
However, in his debut match with the capital’s team, Harry Kewell will face a tough challenge. Specifically, the Australian tactician will lead Hanoi FC in an official V-League Round 7 match on October 18, hosting Ninh Binh FC — currently top of the league standings — at home. This opponent is considered very formidable for the new coach, as Ninh Binh has been impressive this season, winning 4 matches, drawing 2, and remaining unbeaten after 6 rounds, including a 2-0 victory over the reigning champions, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh.
With the addition of a reputable and experienced head coach, Hanoi FC demonstrates its determination to revive this season. After a streak of 4 consecutive matches near the bottom of the table, the purple-clad team recently found success by defeating Thanh Hoa and SHB Da Nang, rising to 6th place with 8 points. Nonetheless, these opponents are not considered strong compared to Van Quyet and his teammates.
During the upcoming two-week break, coach Harry Kewell and his squad must prepare thoroughly if they want to avoid a disappointing debut.
