Mr. Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has once again "started a fight" with top clubs, specifically Man City and PSG. Tebas openly criticized these two teams for spending excessive amounts of money over a long period without maintaining the necessary financial balance.
Over the years, La Liga has enforced strict financial rules to ensure sensitive issues are managed for the teams participating in the league. Naturally, because of La Liga's stringent regulations, clubs find it relatively difficult to adjust, as in the case of Barcelona. La Liga’s approach has received quite a few mixed opinions and is seen as somewhat inflexible.
However, president Javier Tebas believes that maintaining financial balance as La Liga has done over the years is extremely necessary to prevent clubs from continuously reporting losses, as seen in England, Serie A, or Ligue 1.
Tebas confidently stated: "Football is a sport, and in these European leagues, you will always face clubs with different systems. Either they fail to control their finances or they have a different structure. But in England, they are already worried about the league’s debt levels. That I am certain of."
The head of La Liga also sarcastically remarked that clubs like PSG or Man City are only good at spending money and then suffering losses but never paying a heavy price for it: "In England, I see a league that keeps losing money. The glamour is very obvious, but inside it’s not like that. You can lose money for 1, 2, or 3 years, but you cannot report losses continuously from 4 to 9 years, or even up to 10 years like Man City.
They have been continuously losing money and facing accusations of cheating since the new owners took over. Man City was even fined by UEFA, but such penalties bring no benefits to European football.
PSG? I know this club has lost 200 million euros for seven consecutive years. So why are they still relaxed and not punished? In La Liga, it is completely different. Despite differences, we still compete fairly and demonstrate it through results. La Liga has a 30-title advantage over the Premier League in this century."
