Christopher Ramsey has passed away

Christopher Ramsey, Brentford’s youth goalkeeping coach, passed away following a struggle with a serious illness.

Recently, Brentford Football Club announced that their youth goalkeeping coach Christopher Ramsey has died after fighting bowel cancer.

Ramsey joined Brentford in June 2023 as a professional development goalkeeping coach at the academy, before being promoted to head of academy goalkeeping coaching in July 2024. He played a vital role in reopening the academy and built a strong working relationship with first-team goalkeeping coach Manu Sotelo, helping develop goalkeepers ready for Premier League competition.

Ramsey’s influence was felt throughout the club, having worked with all levels from the first team to the youth squads. To honor him, Brentford’s academy matches this weekend will observe a minute of silence and hold flower-laying memorial activities.

Interim academy director Jamie Greenwood shared: “Chris was a wonderful person who made a deep impression on everyone he worked with. He was passionate about coaching goalkeepers and consistently had a positive impact on both players and coaching staff. His spirit and legacy will live on through the young goalkeepers and coaches he mentored.”

Football director Phil Giles also expressed his condolences: “Chris was not only a key figure in the academy’s journey toward Championship standards but also a great support to Manu in the first team. Fans may not be aware of all his contributions, but Chris played a major role in the development of Mark Flekken, Hakon Valdimarsson, and other goalkeepers over recent seasons. We are deeply saddened by this loss, but it is also a time to remember and celebrate an outstanding coach, a valued colleague, and above all, a remarkable human being.”

Brentford will pay tribute to him during the Premier League match against Manchester City this Sunday. Before kickoff, there will be a commemorative ceremony, players will wear black armbands, and many of his family, friends, and colleagues will be present to honor his memory.
