The head coach of Vietnam U23 officially receives a decision about his future

SLNA Club releases an official announcement about coach Phan Như Thuật, who recently joined the Vietnam U23 squad.

SLNA Club has just issued an official notice: "At his personal request, coach Phan Như Thuật has resigned from his position as head coach of Song Lam Nghe An Club. This request has been approved by the club’s leadership.

Currently, coach Phan Như Thuật is serving with the Vietnam U23 team. After completing the training camp with the U23 team and returning to the club, the management will assign a new role for him. We thank coach Phan Như Thuật for his contributions to the SLNA first team so far and wish him good luck and success in his future journey."

During this Vietnam U23 training period, SLNA contributes three members: coach Phan Như Thuật and two players, Cao Văn Bình and Trần Nam Hải Nam, from October 4 to October 15. Thus, coach Phan Như Thuật will be one of the assistants in the U23 Vietnam coaching staff. In October, both the U23 Vietnam and the senior national team will train simultaneously, but the senior team will play two upcoming matches in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers against Nepal.

Meanwhile, the U23 Vietnam team has no official competitions and is only gathering to evaluate the squad. Therefore, the main coaching resources will be focused on the senior national team. This might explain why additional domestic coaches will be called up to the U23 Vietnam team for the October training camp.

Before joining the Vietnam U23 team, coach Phan Như Thuật resigned as head coach of SLNA Club. He made this decision immediately after the 2-3 home loss against Ho Chi Minh City Police. If confirmed, this will be the second time the 41-year-old coach has stepped down as the leader of the Nghe An club.

According to reliable sources, the new head coach of SLNA Club will be Văn Sỹ Sơn. After Quang Nam dissolved, this strategist has not yet found a new team. Văn Sỹ Sơn was also a symbol of Nghe An football during his playing career and is highly regarded for his coaching experience.
