(Football result) - Manchester United claimed a 2-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford during the 7th round of the 2025/26 Premier League, moving up to 8th position for now.
On the evening of October 4th (Vietnam time), Manchester United hosted Sunderland at their home ground, Old Trafford, as part of the 7th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season. After a series of poor performances, coach Ruben Amorim’s team finally regained their winning form by overcoming their opponent 2-0.
Right from the kickoff, the "Red Devils" dominated the game and made an early impact in the 8th minute. Mason Mount delivered a precise shot from outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to open the scoring for MU. The home side kept up the pressure while Sunderland mostly retreated to defend and waited for counterattack chances. Bruno Fernandes nearly doubled the lead in the 24th minute with a long-range shot that hit the post, shaking Sunderland’s goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

In the 31st minute, Manchester United celebrated again as Benjamin Sesko finished with a low, accurate shot following a perfect cross from a teammate, extending the lead to 2-0. These two goals boosted the confidence of the Old Trafford team, allowing them to control the match fully and leave Sunderland almost no chance to fight back for the rest of the first half.
In the second half, coach Ruben Amorim deliberately slowed the pace and brought on several substitutes such as Matheus Cunha, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte to conserve energy. Despite creating more chances, MU’s forwards lacked precision in finishing, notably missing two opportunities by Cunha in the 70th and 85th minutes. Sunderland’s late efforts by Chemsdine Talbi and Eliezer Mayenda were unable to beat goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who had an outstanding performance that day.

The 2-0 victory temporarily lifts MU to 8th place on the table with 10 points. Ruben Amorim’s squad will need to maintain this spirit in upcoming rounds to truly re-enter the Premier League title race.
