Arne Slot defends Liverpool's top star

Coach Arne Slot made notable remarks about Mohamed Salah after Liverpool's 1-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the latest Premier League round.

The big match against Chelsea marked the third time this season in the Premier League that Salah neither scored nor assisted. However, Slot emphasized that he is not overly concerned about his player's form and believes every player can have off days.

Slot shared after the game: “I find this quite interesting. Is Salah creating more chances today because he didn’t play midweek? Or did he miss opportunities due to a slight lack of sharpness after playing against Galatasaray? We will never know.”

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Mohamed Salah has consistently maintained an impressive scoring record. Throughout eight full Premier League seasons, he has never scored fewer than 18 goals. At 33 years old, the Egyptian forward remains a key pillar for The Reds, with 3 goals and 3 assists across all competitions this season.

However, the 1-2 loss to Chelsea meant Salah failed to make an impact on the score sheet, marking his third goalless match in the Premier League this season. Previously, Salah only came on as a substitute for 28 minutes in the shocking 0-1 defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Coach Arne Slot continued to defend his player: “I like that he often appears in positions both he and I desire. Throughout his career and since I arrived here, he has proven his scoring ability.”

He stressed that no one can expect perfection every match: “Today, he had many chances to do what he usually does but Salah is human. Not every opportunity that comes his way turns into a goal. There are matches where he gets into very good positions but still doesn’t score or assist.”

Besides defending Salah, Slot also asserted that Liverpool deserved a better result against Chelsea: “We created more chances to score than one goal, both last week and today. When we scored, I think we would have won.”

The defeat to Chelsea caused Liverpool not only to lose points but also affected morale, especially as key players have yet to reach their best form. Nevertheless, Arne Slot’s public defense of Salah shows he still places full trust in the Egyptian striker, the biggest icon of The Reds for nearly a decade.
