Shining continuously, Mbappe pays a heavy price

Striker Kylian Mbappe endured a significant injury following his brilliant performance that helped Real Madrid defeat Villarreal.

Real Madrid has regained their winning spirit in La Liga by comfortably beating Villarreal 3-1 in the 8th round. In this match, Kylian Mbappe once again made his mark by scoring a goal, setting a personal record with a streak of 9 consecutive games scoring for both club and national team.

However, the French striker's joy was not complete as he suffered an ankle sprain, later having to leave the field in the 83rd minute. This could cause the 1998-born superstar to miss the upcoming national team call-up during the October FIFA international window, also affecting his form before entering the crucial phase of the season.

After the match, coach Xabi Alonso confirmed Mbappe's injury and stated that the player's condition needs careful evaluation.

Specifically, the Spanish tactician said: "At the moment, I can’t confirm that Mbappe will not join the French national team camp. Right now, he is feeling some pain and discomfort. The French medical team will conduct thorough checks and assess the injury. We hope it’s not too serious, but at this point, it’s hard to predict."

According to the schedule, France will face Azerbaijan in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on October 11 (Vietnam time), then play Iceland three days later.

Earlier, in the match against Villarreal, Mbappe voluntarily gave up the penalty kick to Vinícius after the Brazilian forward was fouled in the box. Vinícius took the chance and scored his second goal. However, coach Alonso confirmed that Mbappe remains the designated penalty taker for Real Madrid.

Alonso stated: "The players discussed and made the decision on the field, but the priority penalty taker is still Kylian. We always trust him. Although Vinícius took it today, the first choice remains Kylian."

So far, Mbappe has scored a total of 14 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid. This shows that the French striker is a key goal contributor for Los Blancos, directly bringing favorable results to the royal club.

If the injury is worse than initially expected, Real could face chaos without Mbappe's presence during the challenging period ahead.

With the win over Villarreal, Xabi Alonso’s squad temporarily climbed to the top of La Liga with 21 points, two points ahead of their archrivals Barcelona but having played one more match.
