Breaking: Manchester United legend officially dismissed after 11 matches

After just 11 matches in League One, Steve Bruce, the Manchester United icon, was formally relieved of his duties by Blackpool due to a poor run of results causing the club to slip into the relegation zone.

Blackpool was once considered a strong contender for promotion in the 2025/26 season. However, everything quickly fell apart. After 11 games, they managed only 2 wins, 2 draws, and suffered 7 defeats, pushing the team down to second-last place in the standings. League One. The 0-2 home defeat to newly promoted AFC Wimbledon on October 4th was seen as the final straw, prompting Blackpool’s management to make a decisive decision.

Immediately following that loss, the club issued a statement: “Blackpool Football Club confirms the departure of head coach Steve Bruce, assistant Steve Agnew, and Stephen Clemence. We thank them for their efforts during their tenure and wish them all the best in the future.” Assistants Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks will temporarily take charge of the first team until Blackpool appoints a new head coach.

Steve Bruce was a Manchester United icon under Sir Alex Ferguson, making over 300 appearances for the Red Devils before transitioning into coaching. He began his managerial career in 1998 at Sheffield United and has overseen more than 1,000 matches, leading well-known clubs such as Newcastle, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Hull City, and West Brom. However, this chapter marks a disappointing period in the veteran coach’s career.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire after the Wimbledon defeat, Bruce admitted the loss was his responsibility: “I could give many excuses, but that’s not my style. Today, we played below our level, and I have to take responsibility.”

Bruce was appointed by Blackpool in September last year to replace Neil Critchley, with hopes of guiding the team back to the Championship. However, poor results quickly shattered those hopes. From a team full of ambition, Blackpool now struggles in the relegation zone with growing fears of dropping further.

The defeat to Wimbledon, highlighted by Danilo Orsi’s brace, ended Bruce’s brief tenure at Bloomfield Road. Nevertheless, he still commands respect in English football due to his extensive experience and long-standing contributions to the sport.

Now, Blackpool must begin a new chapter under interim management. The immediate goal is no longer promotion, but rather salvaging a rapidly declining season. With a congested schedule ahead, the club’s leadership must find a capable successor to revive the team’s spirit.
