Central defender Bùi Tiến Dũng missed the Vietnam national team's initial training session because of health issues.
On the afternoon of October 5th, the Vietnam national team held their first training session in Thủ Dầu Một (Ho Chi Minh City) to prepare for the two matches against Nepal in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The training atmosphere under coach Kim Sang Sik was very lively and enthusiastic.
With Quang Hải unable to participate due to injury, the current Vietnam squad consists of only 23 players. However, coach Kim Sang Sik could not have the full squad in the first training session because central defender Bùi Tiến Dũng was injured and requested to rest at the hotel. Nonetheless, this issue is not a cause for concern.
Additionally, three young players from PVF CAND—Xuân Bắc, Thanh Nhàn, and Hiểu Minh—were assigned to train separately with the Vietnam national team doctor, Trần Huy Thọ. These three players jogged lightly for about five laps around the field before the doctor guided them through endurance exercises in a corner of the pitch.
It is understandable that these three young players trained separately. PVF CAND had just completed their V-League round 6 match on October 3rd against Hà Tĩnh, and it was only on October 4th that Thanh Nhàn, Xuân Bắc, and Hiểu Minh flew to Ho Chi Minh City and then traveled to Thủ Dầu Một to join the squad.
Since most of the national team players had just competed in the 2025/26 V-League round 6, coach Kim Sang Sik designed a light training plan to help his players loosen their muscles and relieve post-match fatigue. After warm-up exercises, the players practiced basic tactical drills, with special attention on helping eight young U23 players adapt to the team’s playing style. The Korean head coach expressed satisfaction with how quickly the newcomers integrated.
According to the schedule, the Vietnam national team will train in Thủ Dầu Một until October 8th before playing two matches against Nepal: the first leg at 7:30 PM on October 9th at Gò Đậu Stadium and the second leg at 7:30 PM on October 14th at Thống Nhất Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City).
