Vietnamese overseas midfielder Vadim Nguyễn from Russia is highly regarded in the Vietnam U23 squad during the October FIFA Days training camp, preparing for SEA Games 33 and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals.
Born in 2005, Vadim Nguyễn is a Russia-born Vietnamese overseas player currently competing for SHB Đà Nẵng in the 2025/26 V-League. The 1.75m tall player can operate both as a central midfielder and winger. This season, he has played 3 V-League matches and 1 National Cup match, all coming off the bench.
Vadim Nguyễn has been given the opportunity to test himself in the Vietnam U23 team
Regarding the new recruit Vadim Nguyễn, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh said: "We highly appreciate this player. The coaching staff frequently communicates with head coach Kim Sang-sik to develop the best criteria for selecting team members."
The acting head coach of Vietnam U23 also added about the coaching staff’s delegation of tasks:
"Whether the camp is short or long, friendly or practice matches, I assign detailed tasks to ensure smooth operations and help the members feel less unfamiliar."
Since head coach Kim Sang-sik is leading the senior national team in two matches against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the coaching of Vietnam U23 remains under acting head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until October 6 before departing for a training camp in the UAE.
There, the team will have two quality friendly matches against Qatar U23 on October 9 and 13. This is part of a football development cooperation program between the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Qatar Football Association, launched in 2023, providing a crucial opportunity for Vietnam U23 to hone tactics, finalize the lineup, and gain experience.
In November 2025, Vietnam U23 will compete in an international tournament in China under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both federations’ leaders in August 2025. The tournament is expected to feature China U23, Vietnam U23, and two other strong teams from the continent, promising an important preparatory step before key end-of-year objectives.
Before training, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh emphasized: "The two friendlies against Qatar U23 in the upcoming camp are very important, helping to test and evaluate some promising players. The entire team is striving to do everything possible to aim for the gold medal at SEA Games 33 and to advance far in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship."
Regarding Viktor Lê’s late arrival, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh explained that the player suffered a minor injury in a club match and faced travel difficulties due to stormy weather:
"Viktor only arrived this morning and was able to participate in the training session. The coaching staff sympathizes and provides support to ensure the player is well prepared."
