Center-back Leny Yoro unexpectedly appeared at a notable moment in the game between Lille and PSG.
After Man Utd secured a victory over Sunderland in the 7th round of the Premier League, defender Leny Yoro returned to France to participate in a match for his old club Lille. This talented center-back spent seven years with Lille, rising through their youth academy before making 60 appearances for the first team. In the summer of 2024, Man Utd quickly signed Yoro for a fee of £52 million, outbidding strong competition from Real Madrid.
During the home game against PSG, Yoro finally had the chance to say goodbye to his former fans. In Ligue 1, the honorary kickoff before each match is a familiar tradition, usually reserved for celebrities or special supporters. Wearing Lille’s number 15 jersey with his name, a team scarf, and jeans, Yoro stepped onto the pitch, shaking hands with veteran striker Olivier Giroud, a former star of Arsenal and Chelsea, now playing for Lille at age 39.
After completing the honorary kickoff, the coach Ruben Amorim’s favorite player waved to the crowd amid enthusiastic cheers. When Giroud took the official kickoff, the young Man Utd star enjoyed an exciting match that was lively at both ends of the field.
PSG entered the match with a weakened squad, missing key players like Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, giving the home team the chance to press aggressively from the start.
However, it was the reigning Ligue 1 champions who took the lead in the 66th minute thanks to a goal by Nuno Mendes.
Refusing to give up, Lille kept attacking and eventually equalized through substitute Ethan Mbappe. After scoring, Ethan celebrated with Kylian’s signature crossed-arms gesture, while his older brother, sitting in the VIP stands, smiled proudly watching.
The 1-1 draw allowed PSG to temporarily move to the top of the Ligue 1 table, one point ahead of Marseille after seven rounds.
