Manchester City’s Rodri addressed the press at Brentford’s ground following his early exit due to injury in the 1-0 Premier League win after only 20 minutes on the pitch.
Rodri hopes he won’t miss any Man City matches after having to leave the field injured during the win against Brentford. The Spanish midfielder was forced off after just 20 minutes at GTech Stadium, but he has eased concerns about his latest injury.
This injury will prevent Rodri from participating in upcoming Spain national team matches. Although he was called up, he must withdraw after feeling an issue with his hamstring.
However, Rodri remains optimistic about playing against Everton in two weeks, as he believes he “protected” his hamstring by immediately requesting a substitution. Rodri commented:
“I’m fine. I felt a slight twinge in my hamstring but it doesn’t seem serious. The most important thing is that the team won. I stretched it a bit, similar to what happened in the EURO final. I pulled it slightly but that’s part of the process. I don’t feel muscle fatigue; I still feel strong and most importantly, it’s not too severe.”
He added: “This is part of the recovery process. The positive side is you come off immediately, avoiding further muscle strain. The upcoming break will give me extra time to recover and hopefully I can be available for the next match.”
Pep Guardiola was also asked about Rodri’s condition during the pre-match press conference in London and he suggested it’s unlikely the player will regain peak form before the World Cup, but believes Rodri will return to top level.
Man City’s head coach said: “Rodri is an outstanding player, everyone knows that. He may have struggled accepting that this isn’t a 6 or 12-month issue. The World Cup will showcase the best version of Rodri, and next season will be his best. This year is a period of adaptation. A year he has to rest. The body changes, the pace changes, it’s just a matter of time. If he stays healthy, he will come back.”
