On the afternoon of October 5th, the Vietnam national team conducted their initial practice in Thu Dau Mot (Ho Chi Minh City) as preparation for the two matches facing Nepal in the final qualifying round of the Asian Cup 202
The training atmosphere under coach Kim Sang Sik was very lively and enthusiastic. Since most players had just competed in the 6th round of the V-League, coach Kim Sang Sik assigned light exercises to help the players relax their muscles and recover after matches. After warming up, the players reinforced basic tactical drills, with special emphasis on helping 8 young players from the U23 squad get familiar with the team’s playing style. The Korean head coach expressed satisfaction with the quick integration of the newcomers.
Before training, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam shared with the media about his return to the national team after nearly a year away:
“After a long period away from the national team, the feeling is very familiar, almost like it was just yesterday. Meeting old teammates makes me very happy. Although it’s been almost a year since I last wore the national jersey, it really feels like I played for the national team just last week. Right now, I am very determined and will try my best to contribute as much as possible,” Van Lam said.
The goalkeeper born in 1993 also shared about the atmosphere during the gathering: “We just gathered yesterday and ate together, and I clearly felt the joy and excitement. There are quite a few young players this time, and from now on, we will focus together on the common goals of the national team.”
Speaking about the upcoming opponent, Van Lam said: “Currently, I don’t have much information about Nepal. However, in the coming days, the coaching staff will provide video footage and hold tactical meetings. From there, the team will find the best approach and playing style.”
Answering questions about competition for the goalkeeper position, Van Lam affirmed: “At every call-up, the coach selects the best goalkeepers in Vietnamese football. We support each other in training and matches. Who starts or contributes in what way is up to the head coach’s decision. The important thing is that we all aim for the common goal for the national colors.”
According to the plan, the Vietnam national team will train in Thu Dau Mot until October 8 before playing two matches against Nepal: the first leg at 7:30 PM on October 9 at Go Dau Stadium and the second leg at 7:30 PM on October 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City).
