Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger to become the fastest coach to reach 250 Premier League victories.
Pep Guardiola further cemented his position in England by guiding Manchester City to a 1-0 victory over Brentford last Sunday. This win not only boosted his team’s ranking but also made Guardiola the fastest manager to reach 250 Premier League wins, surpassing iconic figures like Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger.
The match’s only goal was scored by Erling Haaland in the first half, securing all three points for City at the Gtech Community Stadium. This victory marked Guardiola’s 250th win in the Premier League, a feat he accomplished in just 349 matches as manager.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has overtaken Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger to become the fastest coach to reach 250 Premier League wins.
This achievement puts the Spanish manager well ahead of previous legendary coaches. Specifically, Sir Alex Ferguson – the Manchester United icon – took 404 matches to reach 250 wins, while Arsenal’s Arsène Wenger required 423 games. Another former United manager, now at Everton, David Moyes, needed as many as 645 matches to reach the same milestone.
This is a special milestone for Guardiola, especially given Man City’s rough start to the season with two consecutive defeats against Tottenham and Brighton. However, the Manchester side quickly regained momentum, remaining unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches and extending their unbeaten run to seven games across all competitions. The three points against Brentford also lifted them to fifth place in the league table.
However, Guardiola’s happiness was tempered by a fresh injury to midfielder Rodri. The Spanish star had to leave the pitch after only 20 minutes, able to walk off but clearly in pain. There is concern he might have to miss an extended period, which is a significant worry for Man City.
Up front, Erling Haaland continues to be the biggest hope. The Norwegian striker has started the 2025-26 season impressively, scoring 12 goals in just 9 matches across all competitions. Still, Haaland admits he faces considerable pressure from direct rivals in Europe such as Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé in the race for the top scorer.
By reaching the fastest 250 wins in Premier League history, Pep Guardiola once again confirms that he is not only the mastermind behind Man City’s success but also one of the greatest managers of the modern era.
