African coach gives unexpected opinion on U23 Vietnam's group

Omar Najhi, head coach of U23 Jordan, commented on Group A of the U23 Asian Championship finals. This is the group where U23 Vietnam competes.

At the 2026 U23 Asian Championship finals, U23 Vietnam is placed in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, and Jordan. Besides the direct rival, the host team, U23 Jordan is also a competitor that Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad must be very cautious about.

Recently, head coach Omar Najhi of U23 Jordan shared his views after the group draw results. Regarding Group A, the strategist confirmed the teams have fairly equal levels:

"The task at the upcoming tournament in Saudi Arabia early next year will certainly be challenging, but I have faith in the current generation of players. The chances of advancing past the group stage are evenly matched due to the balanced level of the teams, yet we will do our utmost to progress as far as possible in a competition featuring many experienced and technically skilled teams."

To prepare for this important tournament, U23 Jordan immediately called up 27 players for training from October 2nd to 7th. According to Coach Omar Najhi, he and his coaching staff will strive to find the best quality players for the competition: "Although the task is not easy, we have talented players and individuals capable of making a difference, representing a worthy face of Jordanian football – which is currently experiencing a golden era at the continental and global levels."

"In the near future, we will continue to scout and discover more talents in youth competitions to expand the selection pool, finding alternative options that can contribute to the current squad – which performed very impressively in the Asian qualifiers last month,"the strategist concluded.

U23 Jordan secured their place in the U23 Asian Championship finals as the top team in Group A with three wins out of three matches. This West Asian team has also qualified for all seven editions of the U23 Asian Championship. They are an opponent that Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team must not underestimate. In 2024, U23 Jordan defeated U23 Vietnam in a friendly match via penalty shootout.
