Supachai's withdrawal due to injury has caused significant difficulties for Thailand's squad depth.
The challenges for the Thailand national team increased again when Supachai Jaided, Buriram United's striker, suffered a thigh injury in the final minutes of the 2-2 home draw against BG Pathum United in Thai League 1 on October 5, officially withdrawing from the "War Elephants" squad.
Previously, Prames Ajwilai, a forward from Jubilo Iwata, and Sasalak Haiprakhon, left-back of Buriram United, both had to pull out of the Thailand national team due to injuries. Head coach Masatada Ishii called up Chanarong Promsrikaew, a striker from Chonburi FC, to replace Supachai Jaided.
With Supachai injured and having to leave, Thailand now has only one true striker, Teerasak Poeiphimai from Port FC. This presents a major challenge for the "War Elephants" as they must defeat Taiwan in both upcoming matches of the Asian Cup qualifiers to keep their hopes alive.
After losing to Turkmenistan, Thailand's chances of advancing are severely affected. Before considering a comeback win against this opponent in the final round to secure a spot in the 2027 Asian Cup finals, Thailand must first perform well in the next two matches against the weaker Taiwan team to earn a full 6 points.
Among the 23 selected players, three who currently play in Europe and Japan are expected to make a difference. First is Nicholas Mickelson, a fullback playing for SV Elversberg in Germany. Mickelson stands out for his physique, speed, and comprehensive offensive and defensive abilities. Playing in European football environments gives him added confidence and experience facing physically strong opponents.
In midfield, the return of Supachok Sarachat from Consadole Sapporo (Japan) is a notable highlight. The Thai midfielder is in excellent form in the J.League and is regarded as one of Thailand's key attacking players. His international experience and ability to create breakthroughs with speed and technique make Supachok an important weapon for coach Ishii.
