Enzo Fernandez along with two compatriots have reached Miami to get ready for Argentina's upcoming friendlies.
The Argentina national team has started assembling for two upcoming friendly matches, with the first three players already present in Miami, where the entire squad will be based to prepare for the matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
The initial three players joining La Albiceleste are Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea), Cuti Romero (Tottenham), and Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth), the latter considered a surprising inclusion in this call-up.
Led by coach Lionel Scaloni, Argentina, the reigning two-time Copa America champions and current leaders of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, are aiming to defend their title at the world’s biggest football event. The team is fully focused on two friendlies scheduled for October.
According to the schedule, Argentina will face Venezuela, whom they previously defeated 3-0 at Monumental Stadium, on October 11 (Vietnam time) at Hard Rock Stadium. Three days later, Messi and his teammates will continue by playing Puerto Rico at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Coach Scaloni has attracted attention by naming several new faces such as Facundo Cambeses (Racing), Lautaro Rivero (River Plate), Aníbal Moreno (Palmeiras), and continues to give chances to Jose Lopez, a striker currently performing well at Palmeiras.
However, Argentina suffered a setback as Thiago Almada (Atletico Madrid) suffered a muscle injury and had to withdraw. At this time, Scaloni has decided not to call up a replacement, maintaining the current squad to keep stability ahead of the two matches.
Regarding Messi, the 38-year-old superstar continues his journey with the Argentina national team. Although he has announced his last match at home, El Pulga is aiming for final achievements with the national team, yet he has not confirmed his participation in the 2026 World Cup, where Argentina are the defending champions.
To date, Lionel Messi remains the greatest scorer in Argentina’s history, with 114 goals in 194 matches, far surpassing the record of legend Gabriel Batistuta (55 goals in 78 appearances). Not only a prolific scorer, Messi has also excelled as a playmaker, providing 58 assists to his teammates.
More importantly, Messi has led Argentina to numerous historic triumphs: the 2022 World Cup title, two Copa América trophies (2021 and 2024), the 2022 Finalissima championship, and the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal. These achievements have made Messi an immortal symbol of Argentine football and a living legend in the global football community.
