FIFA has released evidence proving that the Malaysian origins of 7 players who were unlawfully naturalized are fake.
On the evening of October 6th and early morning of October 7th Vietnam time, FIFA officially disclosed evidence regarding the naturalization violations of 7 Malaysian players. As initially alleged by FIFA from the start, the Malaysian Football Association falsified documents concerning the Malaysian origins of these 7 players.
Specifically, the 7 players Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomás Garcés, Rodrigo Julián Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, João Vitor Brandão Figueiredo, Jon Irazábal Iraurgui, and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano were naturalized as Malaysians based on claims that their parents were born in Malaysia. These players appeared in the match between Malaysia and Vietnam during the third round of AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers held on June 10, 2025, at Bukit Jalil Stadium. However, FIFA’s verification with the respective countries revealed that these birthplaces were completely incorrect.
In detail, FIFA possesses the original birth certificates of the parents of these 7 naturalized Malaysian players. Compared to the altered documents used for illegal naturalization, none of these parents were actually born in Malaysia. The original birth records show they were born in Western countries such as the Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, and Spain.
FIFA also released a timeline detailing when Malaysia submitted naturalization applications and documents, up until FIFA officially recognized these players as eligible to represent Malaysia's national team. On June 11, 2025, FIFA received a formal complaint. Specifically, the complainant filed "an official grievance regarding the belief that several foreign-born players were ineligible to play for the Malaysian national team.
Their arrival in Malaysia and debut for the national team occurred relatively recently. The naturalization process and their international debut happened within a suspicious timeframe, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of the procedure.
Although Malaysia is still gathering information to appeal, with the strong evidence FIFA has just released, the case seems likely to conclude soon. It is clear that the Malaysian Football Association falsified documents for these 7 players to achieve illegal naturalization. The main concern now is whether Vietnam’s national team will be awarded a 3-0 victory for the match against Malaysia in June 2025.
