Barcelona is expected to activate the buyout option for English forward Marcus Rashford.
Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona is becoming clearer as the Catalan club’s management is reportedly set to exercise the option to permanently sign the English striker from Manchester United after this season.
According to SPORT from Spain, as cited by Tribal Football Barcelona’s board has agreed on a plan to secure Rashford on a permanent basis next summer. The buyout clause in the loan deal is said to be worth around £26.2 million. However, Barca’s financial situation makes this deal challenging, as they still face strict La Liga financial regulations.
Sources reveal Barca will try to negotiate a lower transfer fee or revise the salary and bonus terms. Rashford currently earns about £315,000 per week at Manchester United, and to stay at Camp Nou, he might have to accept a significant pay cut.
The Mirror from England even suggests that Manchester United has agreed to let Barca buy Rashford at the stated fee and to have the Spanish club cover his entire salary going forward. However, neither the clubs nor Rashford’s representatives have confirmed this information yet.
Additionally, Rashford has openly expressed his desire to commit long-term to Barca. In a September interview, he candidly stated: “I want to wear the Barcelona jersey for as many seasons as possible.” This statement partly reflects the English star’s relaxed mindset after leaving Old Trafford, where he experienced a dip in form and faced heavy criticism.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Barcelona’s management is “very pleased” with Rashford and believes he “no longer considers returning to Manchester United.” Coach Hansi Flick reportedly values the 28-year-old striker’s work ethic and adaptability, viewing him as a key piece in the team’s rebuilding plan.
Rashford joined Barcelona on a one-season loan during the summer 2025 transfer window. Under Hansi Flick’s guidance, he quickly adapted to the team’s style and impressed with 3 goals and 5 assists in just 10 appearances.
Notably, his first La Liga goal came in a 1-4 loss to Sevilla, a match in which Rashford remained one of Barca’s rare bright spots.
After the international break, Rashford will return to Barcelona to continue asserting his position. If he maintains his current form, it’s only a matter of time before the Spanish giant officially secures Rashford’s services.
