Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet admitted that Estevão Willian "has every essential attribute," following his last-minute winning goal in the match versus Liverpool.
The 18-year-old scored his first goal for Chelsea in the 95th minute, securing a 2-1 victory for Enzo Maresca’s team over Liverpool. This crucial goal earned Estevão widespread praise after coming off the bench and making a strong impact.
The Brazilian newcomer quickly won the hearts of Stamford Bridge fans since his transfer from Palmeiras in July. During the 5-1 triumph over West Ham in August, he became the youngest player in Chelsea history to provide an assist in the Premier League.
Previously, while playing for Palmeiras, Estevão was dubbed the "heir to Lionel Messi" by the media and even nicknamed "Messinho." Coach Enzo Maresca also acknowledged that Estevão shares many similarities with Cole Palmer.
Currently, former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet compares Estevão to Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal. Estevão is likened to Lamine Yamal: “He has great potential and all the necessary elements. I believe he can become a top-level star, a true class act. Now, the key is consistency. When you look at Lamine Yamal, you see he always stands out in every match, even at the national team level. When someone can maintain that level regularly, it means they have reached that standard. Estevão has the potential to reach that level; the question is whether he can do it consistently, and I hope he can," Poyet shared with GOAL.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland also praised Estevão after the win over Liverpool, calling him a "wonderkid" on Snapchat. Meanwhile, former Chelsea star Oscar revealed he is a "big fan" of the young compatriot.
