Amid the threat of FIFA sanctions over the unauthorized naturalization of 7 players, Malaysian football media maintain a strong and confident stance.
According to Malaysian media, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had to temporarily exclude 7 foreign-born players who are under FIFA investigation for completing naturalization procedures improperly. These players were key figures in the recent successes of the Malaysian Tigers, so their short-term absence significantly impacts Coach Peter Cklamovski’s squad.
However, FAM and the national team’s coaching staff remain very composed. The MakanBolainsists that Malaysia “already has a Plan B” and will not let the issue disrupt professional preparations for the two upcoming matches in October.
Despite the absence of the naturalized players, Coach Cklamovski announced a squad of 29 players for the forthcoming training camp. Notably, this roster blends young talents with experienced veterans, forming a highly competitive team.
Malaysian media believe that new names such as Aliff Izwan (Selangor FC), Ubaidullah Shamsul (Terengganu), and Ramadhan Saifullah will inject positive energy into the team. Furthermore, naturalized striker Jordan Mintah, currently playing for Kuching City FC, remains included due to his properly completed documentation.
Additionally, the Malaysian Tigers still feature familiar key players like Dion Cools, Shahrul Saad, Stuart Wilkin, Paulo Josue, and Sadaw, helping to maintain a stable core in the lineup.
Although surrounded by negative news, Malaysian media affirm that the team’s spirit remains intact. Many domestic outlets describe this as a “test of resilience” which could help Malaysian football cleanse the squad and offer opportunities for the younger generation to prove their abilities.
Several newspapers emphasize: “Malaysia doesn’t need to overly rely on naturalized players. This is the moment for local players to demonstrate their courage and fighting spirit.”
According to the schedule, Malaysia will face Laos in two Asian Cup qualifying matches on October 9 and 14, 2025. Coach Cklamovski’s team holds a dominant head-to-head record with five consecutive wins, the latest being a 3-1 victory in November 2024.
Backed strongly by the media, the Malaysian Tigers aim to continue their winning streak to strengthen fan confidence amid FIFA’s close scrutiny of the team’s future.
