Trabzonspor aims to secure Onana permanently next summer! Manchester United willing to sell at half price, even £15 million could close the deal

English reports reveal that Trabzonspor has communicated to Onana’s representatives their keen interest in making his move permanent next summer. Since his loan deal lacks a buy option or obligation, discussions with Manchester United regarding the transfer fee are required. Manchester United is likely willing to sell the 29-year-old Cameroonian keeper at a discount to save on salary expenses.

After Onana’s last-minute summer transfer from Manchester United, he has appeared four times for Trabzonspor, achieving two clean sheets, earning two man-of-the-match awards, and even providing an assist. Coach Fatih Tek has been impressed not only by Onana’s skills but also by his leadership qualities and his quick adaptation to the new environment.

At Trabzonspor, Onana’s actual salary is significantly higher than his £120,000 weekly wage at Manchester United, due to tax benefits in the Turkish league and additional performance bonuses provided by the club. This might be one of the factors motivating his improved performance. Therefore, it is anticipated that Trabzonspor will have no trouble reaching a personal agreement with Onana.

The key factor is how much loss Manchester United is willing to accept, as the club spent £47 million (€50 million) to sign him from Inter Milan. It is expected that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would be open to selling him at half price. In fact, even £15 million would be sufficient to fully acquire Onana’s rights from the Red Devils.

Currently second in the Turkish Süper Lig, Trabzonspor aims to mount a strong title challenge against traditional powerhouse Galatasaray this season. Club chairman Ertuğrul Doğan hinted that Onana could join the team permanently after his loan period ends.

He said: "Onana just joined us, and both we and the entire technical staff are very pleased. Manchester United paid a total transfer fee of €65 million for this player, including various add-ons. At that price, Trabzonspor simply couldn’t complete the deal. But if the technical team is satisfied with him, we will see what can be done after a year."

Reportedly, after being loaned to the Turkish league, Onana adjusted his entourage and did not move his whole family to Istanbul. Although his wife initially flew with him to Turkey, she has since returned to Manchester to take care of their children. Only a few close people remain by Onana’s side, witnessing his revival in form.

Both Manchester United and Onana agree that a temporary departure from the Premier League is beneficial for everyone. At a less high-profile club like Trabzonspor, he can enjoy consistent playing time and compete for the league title while playing discreetly, unlike his time at Old Trafford where he often sought the spotlight.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Onana has no way back to Manchester United; after his loan ends, it’s unlikely he will return to Old Trafford. Romano stated: "Onana currently has no plans to come back, and it’s improbable in the future as well. His entire focus is now on Trabzonspor, not Manchester United’s future. Of course, with 10 months left in the season, things could still change."

English media revealed that although new goalkeeper Sène M’Baye had a steady debut, he still has a long way to prove himself. Given the current situation, Manchester United will likely sign another goalkeeper next year. Selling Onana or Bailly would help raise the necessary transfer funds.
