Barca star achieves an unprecedented milestone in Ligue 1 history

The Barcelona-loaned player – Ansu Fati – made history in the 2-2 draw between AS Monaco and Nice in the 7th round of Ligue 1 on October 5th.

After Monaco fell behind by two goals in the first half, Fati successfully converted both penalties awarded to the principality club, helping his team earn a valuable point and being named Man of the Match.

With this brace, the 22-year-old star became the fastest player to score 5 goals in Ligue 1 history since his debut, doing so in just 126 minutes of play.

Ansu Fati made Ligue 1 history by scoring twice in the 2-2 draw between Monaco and Nice in round 7 of Ligue 1

This impressive achievement allowed Fati to surpass Johan Audel, who set the previous record by scoring 5 goals in 137 minutes during the 2007–08 season. Behind him is former Monaco striker Emmanuel Rivière, who reached the same milestone after 174 minutes in the 2013–14 season.

This new record is not only a statistical milestone but also signals the strong revival of a talent once expected to succeed Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Once a prized product of La Masia, Fati made an early impact when debuting for Barca’s first team at age 16. However, his career was severely disrupted by a knee meniscus injury in 2019, followed by multiple recurring injuries. His attempt to regain form on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2023–24 season also did not meet expectations.

In July, Barcelona loaned Fati to AS Monaco for the entire 2025-2026 season, with an option to buy. There, he is proving his value with brilliant performances. After 7 rounds, Fati shares the Ligue 1 top scorer position with Joaquin Panichelli (Strasbourg), both having 5 goals.

After the match, Fati expressed his happiness at regaining his natural confidence:

"Yes, every time you score and contribute to the team, you feel more confident. Those two goals helped us control the match, and for me – as a striker – rediscovering the scoring touch is truly a great joy," Fati told GOAL.

He also revealed the important role of the coach in lifting his spirits: "The coach encouraged me and told me to make the most of every opportunity. We know every game is tough, especially after a loss. Securing a positive result is very important," Fati added.

With 6 goals in 5 games across all competitions, Ansu Fati is proving he remains one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents. The Spanish forward aims to further improve his record when Monaco faces Angers SCO on October 18th.
