Valverde sets an example through his actions

Not yet at full fitness and top form, partly due to changes by Xabi Alonso, Valverde still strives to maximize his impact on Real Madrid’s right side.

Sometimes, in a team filled with stars and egos, what makes the difference is not goals or trophies, but attitude. Federico Valverde understands this better than anyone. Amid debates about his unwillingness to play right-back, the Uruguayan chose to respond through his actions.

Coach Xabi Alonso, who is trying to build new discipline at Real Madrid, delivered a strong message: "Anyone who takes the field must be ready for the team." Valverde, instead of replying with words, showed it through a flawless performance against Villarreal. Earlier, to move past the derby disaster, many Madrid newspapers criticized Fede, claiming he did not want to play against Kairat in the Champions League.

In a position unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar from Ancelotti’s time, Valverde not only fulfilled his duties but also inspired. Although he has not regained the explosive fitness and form of last season, when he was an all-around engine in midfield, Valverde still played with high energy on the right wing. He advanced and retreated fluidly, chose the right positions, and contested fiercely. "I’m fine wherever I play, as long as Real Madrid wins," Madrid fans could feel that spirit from the vice-captain.

Valverde showed a very commendable spirit

Two rounds of applause erupted from the Bernabeu stands when he made a courageous tackle and again as he left the pitch after the final whistle; this was recognition and also a signal to end the unfortunate misunderstanding. Madrid fans always love players who fight themselves to exhaustion for the white shirt. Valverde, with tireless legs and a fiery heart, has proven himself worthy of that love. Certainly, one misunderstanding cannot overshadow his journey — the young man who scored crucial goals, played every position the team needed, and matured from a young midfielder into one of Real Madrid’s unspoken leaders.

Xabi Alonso understands that value. In Alonso’s view, Valverde probably represents the philosophy he wants to instill in the team: No star is bigger than the collective, and discipline is the foundation of glory. This season, Real Madrid is no longer a team that relies solely on individual brilliance but a collective that can adapt and adjust to everything around it. Alonso’s decision to place Valverde at right-back was not just a tactical choice but a psychological test. Fede passed that test with absolute professionalism.

In an era when many players let their emotions take control, Valverde proves he is a man of principles. He does not complain or make demands. He quietly steps onto the field, runs tirelessly for 90 minutes, and ends the match to applause.

Real Madrid may still face many storms, but if Alonso needs a role model for young players to look up to, Valverde is the clearest example: Not always playing in the position he prefers, but always playing with all his heart.
