The top boss at MU has made a decisive statement about Ruben Amorim's future.

head coach MU, Ruben Amorim, needs at least three years to prove himself as an excellent manager. This was stated by the club’s co-owner – Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe: "Ruben Amorim needs 3 years to prove he is a great coach."

Ruben Amorim will complete one year as the Red Devils’ manager this coming November. However, his performance at Old Trafford so far has fallen short of expectations.

MU ended last season’s Premier League in 15th place – their worst result since the 1973-74 season when the club was relegated. Despite spending over £200 million in the summer transfer window, the Red Devils have already lost three Premier League matches this season and were eliminated from the EFL Cup after a shocking defeat to fourth-tier club Grimsby Town.

Speculation about Amorim’s potential sacking intensified before their 2-0 victory over Sunderland last weekend. Some sources suggested that failure to win that match could have led to Amorim’s dismissal.

However, during a conversation on The Times’ The Business podcast, Sir Jim Ratcliffe denied the rumors and reaffirmed his trust in Amorim, whom he described as "a good man" who needs more time to prove his abilities.

"He hasn’t had a good season," Ratcliffe admitted. "But Ruben needs to be given time – three years – to prove he is a great coach. That’s what I believe."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe believes that Amorim needs more time to succeed at MU.

Amorim, 40, has frequently been criticized by experts and fans for sticking rigidly to the 3-4-2-1 formation despite poor results. However, Ratcliffe thinks these opinions are narrow-minded and uninformed. "The media sometimes confuses me," he said. "They want immediate success. They think football is a switch you can turn on and everything will shine the next day. You can’t run a club like MU with rash reactions to sensational weekly articles."

Ratcliffe currently holds nearly 30% of MU shares through the INEOS group and has full control over football decisions, although the Glazer family remains the club’s largest shareholder. When asked if the Glazers might demand Amorim’s dismissal, he said firmly: "That won’t happen."

Ratcliffe also defended the Glazers – who have often been criticized since their leveraged buyout of MU in 2005. According to him, they are "passionate about the club," despite their negative media image.

"MU will become the most profitable club in the world."

Recently, MU announced they reduced losses from £113.2 million to £33 million in the financial year ending June 2025. However, to achieve this, the club conducted two rounds of staff cuts, causing over 400 people – including many long-serving employees – to lose their jobs. The scouting department was among the most affected.
