Overseas Vietnamese with Vietnamese citizenship makes significant progress in Europe

Vietnamese-born midfielder Simon Vũ has been elevated to Fortuna Dusseldorf’s senior squad and stood out in the friendly against Heracles Almelo.

Midfielder Simon Vũ is experiencing a memorable phase in his career after being included by the head coach of Fortuna Dusseldorf (Germany) in the first team lineup for a friendly against Heracles Almelo (Netherlands) during the FIFA Days. This is considered a major milestone for the 19-year-old player, marking a new step forward in his journey towards the dream of representing Vietnam’s U23 national team.

According to Vietnam Football Scout, in the friendly match between Fortuna Dusseldorf and Heracles Almelo, Simon Vũ was brought on in the 61st minute. He quickly made an impact by creating a dangerous chance in the 70th minute, but unfortunately, his teammate couldn’t convert it due to an excellent save by the opposing goalkeeper. At the 90th minute, following a successful challenge by Simon, Fortuna Dusseldorf launched a quick counterattack and scored the decisive goal to secure a 3-1 victory.

According to statistics from Transfermarkt, this season in the German fourth division, Simon Vũ has appeared in 11 matches for Fortuna Dusseldorf’s reserve team, including 10 starts, contributing one assist. Although his stats are not outstanding, his style of play clearly stands out.

The dual-nationality player of Germany and Vietnam possesses solid technical skills, smooth ball control, and sharp tactical awareness. Simon’s strengths lie in his ability to read situations and make precise decisions in tight spaces. Additionally, his versatility allows the coach to deploy him in various positions, from central midfield, defensive midfield to even full-back when needed.

Standing at 1.70 meters, Simon may not be physically dominant, but he compensates with intelligent movement, good positioning, and effective ball distribution. These qualities have helped the 2006-born player catch the attention of scouts, especially as Vietnam seeks promising young talents for the future.
